Tempelhof is best known for its close proximity to Berlin’s famous Airport-turned-recreational park, Tempelhofer Feld, now listed as a historic monument. You can now walk the entire length of the main runway that was the venue for the Berlin Airlift that broke the blockade of West Berlin by Russian forces after the end of World War II. The huge park now is the perfect spot for jogging and playing sport, having a picnic with family and friends, or playing a casual game of Frisbee and today the runway hosts local kite landboarders rather than aircraft.
Tempelhof is however not only favoured by many for its abundance of green space- the area is a beloved meeting point due to its small and cosy cafés, diverse range of international restaurants, and interesting shops. It’s a popular spot for locals to enjoy a relaxing night and take an evening stroll through the lovely neighbourhood. The area also boasts diverse shopping opportunities and markets, standing for an urban quality of life. The vibrant borough provides both upscale old buildings in the vicinity of the Kurfürstendamm as well as attractive old and new houses in simple or middle-range living quarters. Some of the localities even include the popular small garden plot.
